With Benik Afobe now out for what could possibly be the rest of the season with an ACL injury in training, the Robins are left with a big hole in the striker department. I’ve looked at some of the options they may have to fill the void:
OPTION 1: Trust
The club are set up with ready made replacements for Afobe. Top scorer for the last two years Famara Diedhiou, up-coming star Antoine Semenyo and possibly even summer signing Sammie Szmodics could do a job up front for City. However the squad may be a bit thin then, and another injury could be devestating.
OPTION 2: January
With the three options mentioned above the robins could perhaps hang on until January and then get Steve Landsdown to put a bit of money in to the window and see if he’ll get us a quality player, or we could dip in to Chelsea’s long list of young strikers.
OPTION 3: Free
The final possible option for Bristol City is the possibility of finding a gem for the season in the free agent market. Names like Wilfred Bony and Ross McCormack have come up. This deal could be up until January etc, before a proper replacement comes in.
