Then to a midweek game against Queens Park Rangersin the EFL cup and exciting prospect Han-Noah Massengo given a start as the Robin netted three beautiful goals. A stunner from Jack Hunt, A sly finish from Famara Diedhiou and an absolute wonder of a free kick from Liam Walsh which one the goal of the round.
Another tie against QPR saw an important first goal for the reds from on loan striker Benik Afobe after Adam Nagy’s influential performance in the first half was topped with a goal. The Derby county game at Pride Park was set to see a comprimised line up with injuries to Adam Nagy, Bailey Wright, Jay Dasilva, Niki Maenpaa, Marley Watkins and Saikou Janneh. One positive was that the announcement of the signing of Ashley Williams was on the horizon. An early goal from Andreas Weiman and a neat finish from Josh Brownhill gave the robins a 2 goal lead and while Jack Marriot narrowed the gap another three points was gained.
Ashley Williams was then announced and more positivy was brought on the plane to Hull. This was then drained as Tomas Kalas went down and was stretchered off due to a hamstring injury but as Tommy Rowe went down and the penalty was given confidence was gained. Enough for Benik Afobe to slot home straight down the middle. 1-0. 2 minutes later Bowen equalised but after half time another goal from Afobe and an own goal found them the win.
4th spot, five games gone. More work still to be done.
